A YOUNG Barrow school-girl is pleading with Prime Minister Boris Johnson to help the UK's homeless population after penning a heartfelt letter.

Callie Holmes, a Holy Family student, is just six-years-old, but has already shown incredible kindness to strangers by purchasing food and drink for the homeless since becoming inquisitive on a trip to Edinburgh at the age of four.

Mum Jo Holmes said: "I've been trying to get her to do some school work over the lockdown and she's not that keen on doing any so I said let's watch the news and then see if anything comes on that inspires you to write about it.

"The news was talking about homeless people coming out of a hotel and back onto the streets and she was so upset about it, so I said right let's write a letter to Boris Johnson and see if it gets to him.

"She seriously wants to get that letter to him because she is really upset that they are going to go back on the street again after they have had hot water and a kettle and basic things - things that we take for granted that they haven't got. It just makes her so sad."

The letter written by Callie reads: "Please, please can you help the people who have no homes. On holiday last year I saw people sitting on the floor with a sleeping bag. This made me very sad.

"I spent my holiday money on buying them some food and drink and chocolate.

"When the virus was bad the people had hotels to sleep in. On the news it said they are now getting thrown out of the hotels, please don't do this.

"I will help to pay. I saved up ten pounds for a L.O.L Doll, you can have this. I did lots of jobs for money."

When visiting cities, mum Jo says that Callie insists on visiting sandwich shops to buy the homeless food and drink.

Jo said: "The first time she did that she was about four and a half. We explained why they were sitting on the floor.

"She just couldn't believe that they were sat on the floor in a sleeping bag and that they had no home to go to.

"When you explain that to a little girl, it's like 'what?!' - It's just hard for a little girl to understand that."

Over the duration of lockdown, Callie has been doing chores to save money to purchase a new toy, but decided that she wanted to send the money to Boris to help pay for the homeless to stay in a hotel.

Jo said: "She's always had a heart of gold. She's just really caring - she always has been."
