The M6 Northbound has been closed between J36 (Crooklands) and J39 (Shap) after a road traffic collision.

A Cumbria Police spokesperson said on Twitter: "Patrols attending a serious RTC on the M6 between J38 and J39 Northbound which is fully blocked. Likely to be closed for sometime. Diversion route is off at J36 taking the A6 north and re-joining at J39 M6. Will update when we know more."

Serious collision occurred between Tebay Interchange (Brough A685, Appleby B620). The collision resulted in an overturned vehicle and serious injuries.

Cumbria Police are on scene alongside fire and rescue teams, paramedics and Highways England Traffic Officers.

The closure from J36 is expected to remain closed for an extended period of time.

Southbound traffic is being held temporarily to allow air ambulance crews to attend the incident.

Highways England have said the M6 between J36 and J39 will remain closed for accident investigation.
