A BARROW barber is utilising technology to overcome the challenges that the coronavirus pandemic has brought.

Devro’s Barbers, based on Cavendish Street, is opening this weekend on an appointment-only basis using an app called Booksy to control the numbers in and out of the shop.

The barbers have also extended their opening hours to deal with the influx of extra appointments as each shift will be operated by half the number of staff than pre-covid.

Paul Devlin, owner of Devro’s Barbers, said: “We will provide the correct PPE - gloves, disposable gowns and aprons, masks and hand sanitiser - for staff and customers, but unfortunately this has prompted us to put our prices up to cover the extra costs. We already have a card payment facility in the shop and will insist that customers use this so to decrease the amount of money passed between people.

“We have had a good response to opening the appointment app up.”

The popularity of the app has meant that some staff members have already been booked up for a number of weeks in advance.
