'SHOP local, support local shops and businesses and stay safe', is the message from a joint campaign from Ulverston BID and Ulverston Town Council as the town welcomes back traders to the outdoor market.

Ulverston Community Enterprises has warmly-welcomed the traders who will be back on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Since the Government announced that outdoor markets can open in their entirety this month, Ulverston Community Enterprises has been working towards opening the market as safely as possible by consulting with traders and other markets, and liaising with Ulverston Town Council and Business Improvement District..

Town Mayor cllr Sharon Webster said “Ulverston is open for business and this campaign really reinforces this, and encourages people to come in but stay safe at all times.”

Chair of the Ulverston BID Jan Hancock said: “I’d like to pay tribute to Ulverston’s businesses who responded brilliantly to the lockdown restrictions some staying open for food and essential supplies and others providing online ordering and delivery services – thank you one and all.

“We now urge you to keep faith with these local traders and give them your continued support – Shop local and help the town’s economy revive and thrive.”

The Shop Local campaign will include pavement floor stickers reinforcing the two-metre distancing rule. It also directs customers to the Loyal Free Market Place app which enables more and more businesses to trade on line and customers to access their products.

Stalls will be spaced out at least two metres apart, with space for customers to move around them.

The stalls will be facing into the street allowing customers to queue across the street rather than on the pavement where there will be shop queues - additionally, the stalls will be spaced one metre away from the curb to allow those using the pavement enough space to walk through.

Whilst car parking charges will be re-introduced by South Lakeland District Council on 15 June, the Town Council BID have partnered in funding a subsidy for car parking on Buxton Place Car Park. The two-year scheme will mean parking for one hour is 50p and a £1.00 for two hours.
