A BUILDING left empty for more than a year is due to be revitalised when its former inhabitants return.

Barrow furniture firm the Sofa Group has announced plans to move out its current site at the former PC World store in Ashburner Way.

The company said it would move back in to its store in Market Street, which was put up for sale more than a year ago.

It was announced last month that Sofa Group sister company Sofa Wholesalers Barrow would move into the Market Street superstore, selling home and garden furniture.

At that time the company said it would keep two stores in Barrow.

Renovations are due to take place on the site before the store opens.

The group’s Ashburner Way store will become an interior design store, the company said.

A Sofa Group spokesman said: “We are moving The Sofa Group back to our old store on Market Street, Barrow, and will trade as usual from there.

“Our Ashburner Way site will close to be transformed into a Luxury Home Store.

“The store will be focused on interior design enabling us to offer complete customisation to your home throughout the North West of England.

“The development will commence over the coming weeks.

“Our new store will offer a completely different service and will offer products from world famous suppliers.

“We would like to thank all our current and existing customers for your ongoing support, by moving back to Market Street we will be offering sofas and oak furniture at the best prices in the UK.

“We will be holding each item throughout the store in stock, there will be no waiting times, everything will be immediate delivery.”

There is due to be a closing down sale at the Ashburner Way store on June 6, although shoppers will only be allowed in with an appointment.

The Sofa Group moved to its new base in May 2019.

The Market Street building, opposite the town hall, was put up for sale and listed on the market for £700,000.
