THE latest stage of a challenge to help vulnerable people in the Furness area has been praised.

Donations from Two Tin Tuesday - a scheme where local people are encouraged to provide tins and other food on a Tuesday - went to Spring Mount Walney, who work in the community to deliver food parcels to vulnerable and elderly people and those isolating because of health issues across Barrow and Walney.

Spring Bank’s Aylsha Moore said the collection was “a terrific effort for the community, from the community".

A spokesperson for organisers XR Furness said: “Many people in Barrow and Walney are struggling financially through loss of jobs, low income or lack of a support network and we’re only too happy to help. Community spirit will see us through the coronavirus crisis and prepare us for the even greater challenge of the climate emergency.”
