The Mail readers react to the news that two Lake District hotels will be now be closing:

Claire Farrington said: "Windermere one was on verge of bankruptcy this time last year such a shame as they had started to refurb as well and fab location."

Alicia Rueda said: "So sad... I worked at the Windermere Hotel some years ago, really sad and so many people have lost their jobs."

Annemarie Skellern said: "There will be a lot of Hotels and Pubs shutting their doors for good, I expect."

Frank O'Neill said: "It was hard enough to break even without this we bailed out the farmers years ago the government should bail these places out. Not rocket science."

Karen Minshull said: "So sad, the Windermere Hotel was the place to go when I was young."

Leigh Perkin said: "It's the company that's gone bust not the hotels, coach firms Shearings and Wallace Arnold also owned by SPL have gone under, and hundreds of hotels around the country now closed, its a real shame."

Daniel Morris said: "It’s very sad this pandemic is having a big impact on everything no income coming to keep it running a lot of family’s would of gone away in half term."

Lynne Whitaker said: "Oh no. Windermere hotel was where I had my first wedding reception. So sad."

Susan Newton said: "Both hotels need a lot of money spending on them, if someone buys and renovates them the very reasonable prices will go up considerably."

Malcolm Lewis said: "Sad, but unfortunately survival of the fittest. Many hotels in chains, or groups provide a fairly inferior product at a premium price."
