FURNESS rescue teams have been called out to save a stranded man after the ties fastening his boat came loose.

In the early hours of the morning, rescue crews learnt of a man who was adrift and at difficulties in the Walney Channel.

At 1:26am, volunteers from both Barrow Lifeboat and Furness Coastguard responded to reports of the man stuck on a vessel in the channel.

According to Furness Coastguard: "The call had come in, that the tender used for the vessel had become detached and drifted away, stranding the person on the vessel."

Later on in the morning, members of Barrow's ILB reported having brought the man back safely to Ferry Pitchings.

The remainder of the team, meanwhile, continued searching for the missing kayak.

Furness Coastguard said as part of a statement on its social media channels: "Please, can all followers keep a sharp lookout if you are intending to use the channel and waters, as the purple kayak is still missing and presumed still in the channel.

"If in any danger around the Coast, Dial #999 and ask for the Coastguard."
