A COMMUNITY leader has warned residents in Barrow to look out for 'rascals' after two cold callers were reported to Trading Standards.

Cllr Frank Cassidy told householders to be on their guard after two men went round the Walney area touting for business as milkmen.

They were reported by a resident for not having local accents despite claiming they were from Dalton.

There is no evidence to suggest these two men were not legitimate businessmen.

“Walney residents are no fools and I feel they are able to detect the difference between genuine salespeople and rascals," said Cllr Cassidy, county councillor for South Walney.

“We are living through unusual times and some unscrupulous individuals may seek to take advantage for personal gain.

“While the vast majority of traders are perfectly legitimate, residents of Walney should always be on their guard.

“We need to be careful, especially during the current times.”

Cumbria Trading Standards took to social media to warn the public to be on the lookout.

In the post they reminded residents to be cautious about anyone who cold calls at their door offering any goods or services.

They also advised people to consider doing some research before entering into a contract with anyone. For most contracts agreed in the home you are entitled to cancel within 14 days.
