A DATA tracking app has revealed Barrow is a hotspot for people with symptoms of coronavirus.

Analysis from the King's College COVID Symptom Tracker app estimated there are now around 462,700 people in the country with symptoms of the infection.

It represents a massive drop since the app began to track the outbreak in Britain on March 23.

The two current hotspots include Barrow, with an estimated 2.8 per cent of people with symptoms of COVID-19.

The other is Blackpool, with an estimated 2.9 per cent of people.

The public are encouraged to download the app and fill out forms which describe their health and ask about possible coronavirus symptoms.

Healthy people, those who think they might have COVID-19, and those who have been officially diagnosed are all able to take part.

Meanwhile, the two NHS trusts which operate acute hospitals in Cumbria have now reported the deaths of 225 patients as a result of Covid-19.

Over the weekend, a further five people died at Cumbria’s two acute hospital trusts.

In the NHS England figures released on Sunday, no deaths were officially confirmed for Saturday in hospitals in Cumbria.

However, it is understood that two people lost their lives on Saturday at hospitals run by the MBHT NHS Foundation Trust.

Deaths are not always immediately confirmed by health bosses.

Elsewhere, bosses at the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) yesterday confirmed the first death in Cumbria of a nurse.

Lyn Simpson, chief executive of the NCIC, said: “It is with great sadness that I can confirm that an agency staff nurse, died with COVID-19 at the Cumberland Infirmary yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

“The staff nurse was 49 and from London and had been receiving critical care for a number of weeks.

“The individual will be sorely missed by his wife, four children, brothers and sisters and we are liaising with them and offering them our deepest condolences and sympathies at this difficult time.

“The nurse worked at the Cumberland Infirmary for a short time last month. Even though he had been with us for a short time, he was very much part of the team and his loss is a huge shock to the organisation. “

As of yesterday, a further 429 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 14,829. The patients were aged between 40 and 101 years old.
