AN engineer says he has been inundated with orders after producing visors for health workers from his home.

Stephen McEvoy has been putting his 3-D printer to good use by making the visors, which have proved popular with care homes and GP surgeries in Furness.

The Sellafield engineer, who lives in Ulverston, has already delivered the first batches of the face shields to two medical practices.

Joined by his girlfriend Lauren Emery, 31, the pair are hoping to more than double their daily output to cover the hundreds of orders they have received.

Mr McEvoy, 29, who lives in Daltongate, said: “I bought a 3-D printer before all this kicked off because I’ve wanted one for quite a while.

“I realised I was going to be stuck at home for a few weeks and I quickly realised that there were communities gearing up to make these visors because of the national shortage in Personal Protective Equipment.”

He said he had found approved designs for the visors online and set about producing them.

Then he took it upon himself to advertise the creations on social media.

“I thought I’ll post them in the local area and see if I can send them where they need to be,” he said.

The pair are currently trying to work their through 377 orders and have increased production from 20 visors a day to 50.

Mr McEvoy said: “It’s blown up.

“We’ve had orders from pharmacies, paramedics and various care homes. Loads of people want them but but we’re prioritising frontline staff.”
