THE government's chief adviser on Coronavirus (Covid-19) has entered a week-long period of self-isolation, after he says he exhibited symptoms of the disease.
Chris Whitty, England's Chief Medical Officer and the Department of Health and Social Care's Chief Scientific Adviser, announced the news this afternoon through Twitter.
He wrote: "After experiencing symptoms compatible with COVID-19 last night, in line with the guidance, I will be self-isolating at home for the next seven days.
"I will be continuing to advise the Government on the medical response to Coronavirus, supported by my deputies."
Mr Whitty's announcement comes on the same day the Secretary of State for Health, Matt Hancock, and Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the public they had tested positive for Covid-19.
Both Mr Johnson and Mr Hancock report having experienced mild symptoms and say they are continuing their governance work from home.
