A TOTAL of 229 cancer patients at Furness General Hospital benefitted from an extra course of free 'touch' therapy last year, figures have revealed.
In addition 70 patients from Westmorland General in Kendal and 290 from the Royal Lancaster Infirmary received the treatment, part funded by charity the Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
Rosemere funds complementary therapy treatment such as massage and aromatherapy for all cancer patients, sharing the cost with the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust so treatment is free to all patients who choose to have it.
The therapy is proven to bring physical, emotional and psychological benefits to people undergoing cancer treatment.
The service has been temporarily suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Dan Hill, Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s chief officer, said: “The feedback we receive from patients is always so positive that we know it does a lot of good. We will restore the service as soon as we are advised that the time is right."
