A DRINK driver crashed his car into a hedge then fled the scene, a court was told.

Stuart Anthony Jaynes was charged with drink driving after the incident in Millom, which happened on February 29.

The 35-year-old admitted to the offence when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court.

The court heard he crashed his Ford Focus into a roadside hedge then walked to his home at Palmers Lane, where police later found him.

Prosecutor Lee Dacre said the defendant was tested by police as being nearly three times the legal limit for alcohol.

Officers recorded a reading of 87 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, above the limit of 35mcgs.

Magistrates banned him from holding a driving licence for 21 months.

The defendant was also fined £505 and handed a victim surcharge of £50 and costs of £85.

The court heard he had no previous convictions
