A BUSINESSMAN has written a book to help people who have been affected by cancer or lost a loved one to the disease.

John Magee was devastated back in July 2018 when his mother Pat Magee received the heartbreaking news that she had terminal throat cancer and was going to die.

Like a lot of families who have received such tragic news, he felt hopeless until one day when taking care of his mum at home he came up with an idea to write a book and donate all the royalties to help with end of life care at East Lancashire Hospice in Blackburn

John said: “It was light at the end of a very dark tunnel. I am indebted to East Lancashire Hospice as they helped mum have the end of life care at home, but the last four days got very difficult for mum, and she agreed to go into the hospice.

“My mum was scared to go – she said it was where people go to die.

“When we took mum into the hospice the way our family was treated like royalty and all the staff were amazing.

“We had our private room, and all our family were treated with the utmost dignity.

“The work all the staff and volunteering staff do is incredible.

“I knew that the hospice has to raise over two million pounds every year from their fundraising and I thought if my family and I could do something to help build that money then surely it would help others who were in the same position we found ourselves in.

“I would encourage anybody to get involved with the hospice fundraising; it makes a difference to you and others.”

The hospice hosted a book signing fundraiser at its restaurant for friends and family and Blackburn College donated the printing of 100 books which helped to raise money on the night towards the hospice.

Taking Her To The Door is now available on Amazon.co.uk, and all royalties go to the Hospice.
