The owner of a dog-friendly coffee shop has been left disappointed after a visitor to the cafe covered up dog mess with a cushion.

Lizzie Hogan, the owner of Jumbles Country Park cafe, received a messaged from one of her staff who was closing up the shop on Sunday, saying she had found the mess.

Ms Hogan said: “She sent me a picture of it covered up with a cushion. She ended up clearing it all up and cleaning it. It was on the floor too.

“We have rules in place saying the dogs aren’t allowed on the furniture.

“I have dogs myself and I know accidents happen. We need people to tell us so we can clear it up. It wasn’t very nice.

“The member of staff had to take the cover home to wash it. I feel that people should know what’s happened.

“Lots of people do not let dogs into cafes, stuff like this is probably why people don’t let dogs go into other places.”

Ms Hogan took over the ownership of the cafe in September, following the death of the previous owner.

Prior to this she was manager of the cafe for a year and they spent a lot of time and money redecorating it.

She said: “I put in a lot of effort and so did the staff as well. Letting dogs in was a big thing, as we’re in a popular dog walking area.

“We have absolutely no idea who did it, I wouldn’t want to name and shame anyway.

“All the staff love dogs and it is upsetting for dog owners because it paints them in a bad light.

“We have rules in place to ensure the cafe is clean and the kitchen and food areas are completely separate.

“I’m just frustrated. I wouldn’t mind if they’d told somebody, but it’s unfair on the staff and unfair on other dog owners."
