THE board that will help steer Millom’s bid for potential multi-million-pound Government funding has appointed its Chair.

Jakki Moore, of The Beggar’s Theatre in the town, will lead the community committee that will work with and advise Copeland Council on its bid to the Towns Fund, which could secure up to £25 million for the town.

Mrs Moore’s appointment follows a public meeting and the inaugural Millom Town Fund Board meeting in January.

Mrs Moore said: “I’m proud to have been appointed Chair and I am looking forward to working with the community and Copeland Council as we drive this bid forward.

“It was great to see lots of support from our community at the first public meeting. It wasn’t a surprise however as we are a truly supportive community here in Millom.

“We now have a budget to begin the planning process of the bid, and once we have further guidance from the Government, we will be consulting with the community once again.

“We will be working with business, councils and community organisations to create the best outcome for Millom.

“Our goal is to bring as much money as we can into our wonderful town; to encourage new business, health and leisure, the arts, and provision for young people to build a better town for us all.”

In September 2019, Copeland Council was invited to bid for up to £25 million in funding for both Millom and Cleator Moor, and has been required to community create boards in each town to drive the bid. The boards are made up of the public and private sector, with a range of community representatives invited to join.
