THE sudden death of a woman at Carlisle's Hammonds Pond was not suspicious, police have confirmed.
In a brief statement issued this morning, Cumbria Police said that the investigation of the tragedy has now been passed on to the coroner and an inquest will be opened in due course
The woman has not yet been identified.
The tragedy was discovered shortly after 7.30am yesterday when a person who was out walking a dog discovered the woman's body in the popular Upperby park. All of its main entrances were sealed off as police worked to recover the body.
A police spokesman said the alarm was raised at 7.39am and at the time the woman's death was being treated as unexplained.
Members of the public were kept out of the park for most of the morning as police began their investigation. The park is a popular destination for families and children, with a cafe, children's play areas, a boating lake, junior football pitches, and a miniature railway.
