Dave Taylor They should introduce a work visa for the European members that involves the hotel wanting the employee to act as a sponsor for the worker. If the worker quits or is fired then the visa is forfeit and the worker goes home. Is that a fair idea?

Tim Lewthwaite Eric Robson makes a really good point: surely much of our economy, especially rural and tourist economies, rely on what the Gov calls 'unskilled work' (whatever that means - is farming or caring for people with dementia unskilled?). We don't need more academics and scientists here, we need young people who can do tough jobs.

Kevin Potts All about money.

Lesley Ivinson When they say there is no labourers in England, how many people are on the dole now?

Greg Rose Backward step from the government.

Jordan Wood "But who's gonna pick our cotton now??!" They complain the minimum wage is too low, and now complain that companies will have to pay more in a competitive jobs market.

Al Edmondson Its a stupid policy and its stupidly overpriced. A visa application is £1800 and it costs the government £448 to process the application. So where is the extra fee going too?

Paul Griffiths “Priti Patel said anyone earning less than £25k is an “unskilled worker” & can’t enter the UK. NHS starting salaries: Nurse £24.2k, Paramedic £24.2k, Midwife £24.2k, Radiographer £24.2k, Care assistant £17.6k, Physiotherapist £24.2k, Therapist £24.2k. This isn’t going to work

Andrew Tegg There are 20,000 non-UK staff working in 'unskilled roles' in the Lakes, are there 20,000 unemployed waiting (and willing) to step into these roles? Doesn't take a genius to work out the devastating impact this will have on the economy here in Cumbria.

Ronnie White Tim Lewthwaite are there not plenty of unemployed British people in the UK who can I’m sure fill these job positions. It makes sense to me that we get our own unemployed in work first, that is more important.
