A GRANDMOTHER has revealed her horror after her beloved pet dog was stolen from her home.

Christine Wood, 63, came home on Tuesday to discover her home had been broken into and her golden cocker spaniel, Bubha, was nowhere to be seen.

Mrs Wood was given the pet six months ago after her dog of 19 years died.

She described the situation as an 'absolute nightmare'.

"After my dog died, I became quite lonely in the house," she said.

"Then I was offered Bubhaa and the immediate bond between us was unbelievable.

"He'd become a real part of my family."

Mrs Wood returned home around 8.15pm on Tuesday to find Bubha and his lead were both missing.

She said: "We're not sure how they came in the house but we think they've taken off through the back door.

"I'm paranoid that I left it open and am blaming myself.

"I can't believe someone would actually steal Bubbah."

Since the incident, Mrs Wood said she does 'not feel safe in her own home'.

"The fact someone has come into my home and stolen my dog who is so special to me is absolutely heartbreaking," she said.

"I just can't understand what's happened.

"I think it's absolutely appalling.

"I'm scared to leave the house - it's had a massive impact on me."

A police spokeswoman confirmed an investigation was underway.

She said: "Police were called at 8.30pm on Tuesday to the report of burglary at a property on Bath Street, Barrow.

"Unknown persons have entered the property and removed a dog."
