TWO Barrow care homes have been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.

The CQC is an independent regulator which registers health and adult social care service providers in England and inspects whether or not standards are being met.

Risedale Lonsdale Nursing Home, on Albert Street, and Risedale at Abbey Meadow, on Duchy Court, were rated good across all categories, including ‘safe’, ‘effective’, ‘caring’, ‘responsive’, and ‘well-led’.

Both are owned by Risedale Estates Limited, which also Risedale Nursing and Residential Home, on Abbey Road.

The home is currently undergoing a new review, but were previously rated as overall good in 2017.

Inspectors produced a report on Risedale Lonsdale Nursing Home, which can accommodate 95 residents.

“We spoke with seven people who used the service and six visitors about their experience of the care provided," it said.

“We spoke with 11 members of staff including the registered managers, eight members of the care team, and the provider’s catering manager.

“We also spoke with a visiting healthcare professional.”

The inspectors use Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI).

SOFI is a way in which inspectors observe care to help them to understand the experience of people who could not talk to them.

Leah Emerson, a Senior Nurse at Risedale Lonsdale and St George’s Nursing Home, said: “We are delighted to have kept our good rating in all categories once again.

“It is testament to the hard work of the staff and management of Lonsdale and St George’s.”

Inspectors said of Abbey Meadow: "The staff treated people with kindness and respect and knew how people communicated.

"They promoted people's independence and dignity. People made choices about their lives and the staff respected the decisions they made.

"The staff provided care in an empathic way which promoted people's wellbeing.

"Staff were responsive to people's needs. They planned and delivered care to meet people's needs in a holistic, person-centred way."
