AN ATTACK on an 83-year-old man has been branded 'ridiculous' by a leading councillor.

Police have launched an investigation after the pensioner sustained injuries after being punched.

The man sustained head injuries which required hospital treatment.

Police are looking to identify a white man who is approximately in his 40’s, with a short shaved hair, who is potentially involved with the incident.

Barrow councillor Bill McEwan, said: “It is just ridiculous that this is happening.

“Especially a man of his age, if he can’t go out for a drink in a pub without any trouble.

“This is what happens when people have too much to drink.

“I wish him all the well and I hope everyone involved is okay.

“Anyone with information about this should contact the police straight away.”

The incident occurred on January 22 at approximately 7.30pm in the Working Mens Club on Preston Street in Barrow.

A police spokesman said: “The man was punched and sustained cuts to his head.

“He was not seriously injured.”

The ambulance service were also in attendance to assess the man.

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance service, said: “We were called to a police incident on Preston Street at 6.41pm on January 22.
