NEW England Rugby League coach Shaun Wane will deliver the secrets of his success on and off the field to the Cumbria SME business community.

Shaun, who led Wigan Warriors to three Super League Grand Final victories and a World Club Championship success between 2013 and 2018, will provide insights into the passion and leadership skills necessary to steer a world-class club to victory, and how this experience can be translated to the business world.

The Creating Winning Cultures Masterclass, part of the Cumbria Forum, will take place at Hunday Manor Country House Hotel, Workington, on Thursday, February 27. It will run between 5.30pm and 8.30pm, and is open to small and medium-sized enterprises in the county.

Shaun, who left Wigan in 2018, took over as coach of the England national team from Wayne Bennett this month.

Before becoming a coach, he enjoyed a long playing with Wigan, Leeds Rhino and Workington Town, where he hung up his boots after the 1993/94 season.

He was part of the scouting and coaching set-up at his hometown club Wigan for more than a decade before taking over as head coach in 2011.

Drawing on his experiences during his illustrious career as player and coach, he will highlight how his life experiences prepared him for his role at Wigan, and how implementing fundamental methods and approaches and integrating them within every aspect of a business enables continuous improvement, actualises tangible goals and empowers a workforce.

Ewan Pullan, Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) Programme Manager for the Cumbria Forum, said: “Shaun knows what it takes to get results – as demonstrated by his appointment as the new England coach.

"He has achieved success at the highest levels in his sport – winning the Super League Grand Final three times and the World Club Challenge – and the knowledge and skills he has accumulated during his career are invaluable.

“His experience is not just relevant to the sporting world, but across all fields of business – demonstrating how to assemble and manage a winning team and get the best results possible from the people you work with.

“By implementing some key approaches and methods and ingraining them into everything you do, Shaun will show you how you can create the values to drive improvement, achieve goals and empower your people.

"He is sure to provide many ideas and much inspiration to those who attend, just as he will to the England team in his new role.”

Cumbria Growth Hub’s Cumbria Forum includes ERDF-funded activity encompassing masterclass events, two-day workshops and the full six-month growth programme, delivered by LUMS.
