DEDICATION to Barrow Market Hall, the love of trading, and all things haberdashery have earned this business The Mail’s Trader of the Week award.

Susan Dunn Ltd, better known as ‘The Trimming Stall’ has been in the market for more than 40 years and have been selling ribbon, fabric, and buttons to the people of Barrow since 1974.

They are a well known entity on the stalls and other market traders around have said how much they deserve the recognition.

Susan Dunn, has been there since the beginning when she opened the stall with her mother.

They were later joined by her sister Carole Debroize, 72, who has been alongside Susan ever since.

Susan Dunn, owner of The Trimming Stall, said: “We have been here since 1974, so that is 46 years.

“I have always loved it and that does not change despite being her for so long.

“I have seen such a change in the market over the years but I love it because it has such a wide range of shops all in one place.

“I started this with my mother and it is just a haberdashery which also sells crafts items.

“It is lovely to receive this award and to be nominated and I would like to thank all our customers throughout the years who have supported us.”

The 67-year-old is a keen crafter herself and makes many of the cards on sale in the stall herself.

She said: “It is great to see knitting come back into fashion as well as we cater for that as well, we are the haberdashery for the people and as I always say, we sell everything but half a button.

“I am also happy to give advice to people, so if I can help, I do where I can.”

The business was nominated by a big advocate of the market.

Jacqui Armstrong, market administration assistant, said: “They have traded in the market hall for over 40 years and always serve their customers with a smile.

“You can buy a 15p piece of ribbon and they’ll serve you as though you’re buying a gold necklace.

“They turn up every market day together and are stalwarts of Barrow Market Hall and I feel they both deserve some recognition for the service they provide to their customers.”

If you know of any trader that is deserving of our award for their hard work, dedication to the community, or just simply for good service, then you should nominate them for The Mail’s Trader of the Week award.

This can be done by emailing george.lythgoe@newsquest.co.uk, and all you have to do is give the name of the business and why they are so special.
