Apart from getting rid of farming and planting trees, what do the National Trust and the Lake District National Park Authority intend?
It has been suggested the Lake District is turning into a theme park. Too late; it has been so for many years.
No one is asking about the environmental impact of the likes of Keswick Mountain Festival, the Lake District 108-Mile Loop cycling event, the Windermere Marathon or the Three Peaks Challenge, to name just a few.
How do the participants get there, not to mention all the followers and support vehicles?
I went to school in Grasmere from 1949, walking there from the back of the lake and home again in the afternoon.
Yes, there were visitors, but it was not swamped as of now.
In those days everyone knew each other as the district was occupied by, now almost obsolete, indigenous families.
My father had the garage and petrol station in Ambleside and, yes, there were visitors but not gridlocked roads as of now.
On January 21 Donald Trump decried the environmentalists, but Greta Thunberg has the right idea; the powers that be speak the speak but nothing is done.
So I again ask the question: what are the National Trust and the LDNPA intending to really do about our environmental destruction?
