BARROW is about to get a new Indian restaurant.

Barrow Indian Cuisine, at 52 Cavendish Street, is set to open its doors to the public this week.

The newest addition to the town’s choice of Asian cuisine replaces another Indian restaurant, called Bangla Lounge, that ran out of the same premises.

Shamim Chowdhury, the owner of the new culinary venture, told The Mail:

“We’re really excited to get started in Barrow.

“We also have a brilliant young chef - Ali Ahmed - who cut his teeth in the North West. So we’re hoping to get off to a flying start.”

Mr Chowdhury said he plans to hold an opening event on Thursday, where guests will be greeted with a free glass of champagne on arrival. He said there will also be live entertainment in the form of bellydancing and a three-course menu offer at £10.95, which includes a choice of rice or naan bread with diners’ main courses.

“Not only this, we guarantee the best service in Cumbria,” Mr Chowdhury added. “Try something new and come here.

“All the waiting staff will be local - we’re looking to create as many jobs for local people as possible.”

On top of this, he said the restaurant is hoping to host live music nights and will look to work with a number of local charities and the hospital trust to help embed the eatery within the town centre community. He already has a monthly ‘meal for the homeless’ planned.

Mr Chowdury said Barrow Indian Cuisine will also produce food for takeaway orders.

The grand opening event kicks off at 5pm.
