AN ANONYMOUS donor handed out £500 to help feed hungry people in a Barrow.

Barrow Foodbank received a cheque along with a note, signed off with ‘Yours Anonymous’.

The note read, ‘Dear Food Bank, please find enclosed a cheque for £500. Please use for food, thanks.

Claire Coulthurst, assistant Foodbank manager said: “Barrow Foodbank is a true community project with local people donating mainly food which we use to feed people who are in a food crisis.

“We are always overwhelmed with people's generosity especially in cases like this one where a large sum of money is donated.

“I would just like to extend a very big thank you to that very kind person.

“Like most charities we rely on donations and funding to keep our doors open.

"In this case at the request of the donor the money will be banked and used in those times when we run out of certain items.

“Stock levels can vary but we find we run out of UHT milk and juice, tinned spaghetti, tinned custard and rice pudding the most."

The foodbank has fed thousands of people since it first opened.

"I am always very proud of Barrow and the surrounding areas," said Ms Coulthurst.

“The donations which would usually have slowed down at this time of year have continued to come in.

“The need for the foodbank really seems to have resonated in the local community.

“Thank you to everyone who continues to support us.”

Barrow Foodbank is located at Abbey Road Baptist Church, Abbey Road.

It is open between Monday to Friday, from 11am-1pm.
