CUMBRIA Police have backed moves by experts to make people aware of their digital footprint.
Get Safe Online – which gives tips about keeping safe in the digital age – has issued advice in a post-Christmas campaign.
It is aimed at people including those who got digital devices as presents.
The campaign reveals how much information people may leave online.
A police spokesman said: “Most of us use digital devices every day.
“Every time you use social media, buy or sell something online or visit a website you add to your digital footprint.
“Every time you post a photo of your children, you add to their digital footprint too.”
Tips on minimising your footprint include:
n Don’t overshare information that would be better kept private;
n Think before you post. There’s no guarantee that your posts or photos won’t be shared;
n Read terms and conditions and privacy policies before providing personal data or making transactions.
