A COMMUNITY leader has condemned a paint attack orchestrated by a group of youths in Barrow town centre.

Police have launched an investigation after a number of youths threw paint off Debenhams car park in Portland Walk, Barrow which landed on members of the public.

The incident occurred on Monday January 13 at approximately 1pm in Barrow town centre.

Colin Garnett, manager of Barrow Business Improvement District, described the incident as 'disappointing'.

He said: "Anti-social behaviour in the town centre is disappointing.

"We are trying to create a safe, family-friendly town centre and we will work with the police to reduce crime in the town centre."

Mr Garnett revealed Barrow BID is working with police to combat anti-social behaviour in the town.

He said:

"Barrow BID is already working on initiatives with the police and we are also meeting with youth providers to see how we can increase opportunities in the town centre for young disadvantaged people."

A police spokesman confirmed an investigation has been launched following the incident.

He said: "Police are investigating an incident that occurred on Monday January 13 at approximately 1pm in Barrow town centre.

"It is reported two male youths have thrown tins of paint off the multi-storey car park over members of the public."
