A FURNITURE shop has re-launched to include an array of vintage goods after popular demand.

Ulverston Interiors has joined forces with a team of vintage enthusiasts to create King Street Vintage - a store showcasing a collection of retro items.

The idea of working alongside another business was first thought up by teacher and business-owner, Diane Evans-Taylor, who had embarked on a similar venture in Coniston.

A team of retro aficionados take it in turns to run the shop which is located in King Street.

Among those is Janet Boast who noted the business has 'hugely benefitted' since taking on the new vintage additions.

She said: "The shop used to be open two days a week and now it's open six.

"It's definitely helped the business grow as well as allowed us to showcase our own vintage goods.

"It's a mutually beneficial arrangement."

Fellow worker, Sue Swarbrick, said there is a real 'community effort' behind the shop.

She said: "It doesn't feel like we have a job - we all absolutely love it.

"And we get to meet the nicest people all day who are all really supportive of independent businesses in the town.

"It really shows a great community spirit."

The shop sells an array of vintage items including jewellery, pottery, pictures, furniture, medals and more.

Since re-launching the store, Mrs Evans-Taylor said they have been inundated with customers.

"It's been really busy since we opened up," she said.

"We're really grateful to have regulars coming in and locals supporting a new business.

"Vintage shopping has taken off in the past few years that we're seeing a broad range of customers come in.

"It's more eco-friendly to go shop in vintage stores too."

The combined co-working element has enabled the business to continue, says Mrs Evans-Taylor.

"There are so many independents struggling at the moment and working together has allowed another shop to remain open."
