A NOMINATION from an environment concious Barrow resident has given this market stall a chance to shine as it is the only business in the area that offers everything eco friendly.

The Eco Shop in Barrow Market Hall is a one of a kind in this part of Cumbria which offers customers products that are all eco friendly and good for the environment. This is including providing refill stations for customers so they do not have to keep buying more plastic container for their toiletries such as shampoo and hand soap.

Barbara Cairnes opened her doors on September 14, 2019 after realising that customers travelling to Ulverston to previous 'Trader of the Week' winners Cut the Wrap, were burning fuel to get there, which is not eco friendly.

So the 54-year-old made the decision to do open this to give environment minded people the option closer to home.

She said: "It is fantastic to receive this award as it will hopefully bring more attention to our shop as we are still in the early stages.

"We have been growing for a while now, and it has been very well received as we have gone from zero likes on social media to more than 400 in such a short space of time.

"I would just like to say a massive thank you to Barrow Market Hall for letting us have the stall as well as our customers who regularly come to support us.

"We just want to help people live in a more eco friendly fashion as well as giving them to opportunity to not ave to travel to Ulverston to do it."

Before starting her stall alongside husband Brian, 54, Barbara worked as a carer in multiple places across the region including Furness General Hospital, Cumbria County Council, and numerous care homes.

She decided that after living their lives in an eco friendly way, they should make it into their working life as well.

After only opening in September of last year, the couple are hoping that this decision can give people of Barrow more options for eco friendly living.

This is their passion that they have turned into their livelihood, this is exactly the type of business that is worthy of this award as they are trying to help better the community.
