WALNEY residents will continue to experience problems with their water pressure throughout the night, as repairs work continues on a burst main.

The water main burst on Ironworks Road near Furness College last night, leaving half of the road covered in water.

Hundreds of homes on the island have experienced problems with water pressure as a result. Some homes have had a complete loss of water.

Repair works have been ongoing since last night, with emergency measures in place to mitigate the water supply problems.

A United Utilities spokesman said its workers are waiting on an electricity cable to be repaired.

"Once our colleagues at Electricity North-West have completed this work, we will continue to repair the damaged water main."

"People will probably notice poor pressure at around 5 o'clock. This is 'peak demand' time when people tend to run baths, make their dinners etc.

"There are currently nine water-on-wheels tankers pumping water into the second main. It will remain there while repairs are ongoing.

"We expect to have resolved the problem by tomorrow morning."
