DOZENS of Furness volunteers took to Bardsea for a beach clean-up, kick-starting what its organisers hope will be a year that pushes more residents to take part in regular clean-ups along Cumbria's coastline.
The event organisers had 36 as the headcount number at the beginning of the Sunday beach clean, but believes the total may have been higher as further volunteers joined the group as the morning progressed.
One of the volunteers reported having picked up 180 items - suggesting that overall the group collected some several thousand pieces of rubbish.
Tim Faudemer, one of the clean-up's organisers, said: "Barsdea is looking a lot better for it - thank you everyone, there'll be more events coming soon! Our next one is currently [set to take place at] Silecroft beach on January 18th."
