A PILOT flew his way into the heart of his wife in a fairytale winter wedding which left both their heads in the clouds.

Philippe Naylor, 33, an airline pilot at British airways, tied the knot with Amanda Herington, 31, a communications manager at Imperial College London in a traditional church ceremony.

The now Mrs Naylor, who is originally from Ulverston, met her husband on a blind date in London three years ago.

She said: “I’d moved to London a few months before and been on a few dates which weren’t that great.

“We were set up by mutual friends and stayed out until 2am just talking.

“We both have travelling in common - we’re both very close to our families and have two nieces and nephews the same age.”

The pair took their relationship to the next step during a skiing holiday in Zermatt, Switzerland.

“I got whisked off to Zermatt in Switzerland for a surprise skiing holiday in December 2018,” she said.

“We were at the top of the slopes with Matterhorn in the background and I turned around and he was on one knee.

“And exactly a year later we got married.”

The pair said ‘I do’ at the St Mary’s Church in Ulverston before heading to Storrs Hall in Windermere where they were joined by 100 of their closest friends and family.

Mrs Naylor said: “We spent the whole weekend at Storrs Hall and had a lovely informal evening on the Friday.

“Phil and I haven’t met some of each other’s family members so it was a nice chance to introduce people.

“I wanted to get married at St Mary’s Church because all my family had got married there - my mum and dad, my nanna and grandad - it was very special to me.

“After this, we went straight back to Storrs Hall for a drinks reception and canapes.

“We had the most beautiful wedding cake I’ve ever seen - it was four tiers with pillars in between, and rose petals.

“It was the most perfect fairytale winter wedding.

“We had quite a few friends and family who had travelled from all around the world for our wedding - from Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan and France.

“Phil’s sister and her family even drove for 22 hours straight from Toulouse as all flights had been cancelled due to the French air strikes.”

For their honeymoon, the newlyweds enjoyed a ten-day luxury holiday to Thailand.

“It was absolutely incredible,” Mrs Naylor said.

“We did snorkelling, white water rafting, it was amazing.”
