GREGGS’ new meatless steak bake has hit the shelves in Ulverston, but not Barrow.

The vegan alternative to one of the bakers’ most popular pasties went on sale in certain outlets across the country this week.

However, Mail readers will have to head to the Ulverston Greggs in order to sample the bakers’ new meat-free offering, since the company missed out Barrow’s two shops from the initial sale.

A manager at the 136 Dalton Road Greggs said “we’ve had loads of people asking about it today.”

The vegan steak bake is filled with pieces of Quorn mixed with diced onion and meat-free gravy.

This meat-free version follows the success Greggs saw with its line of vegan sausage rolls, launched last year.

It also ties in with ‘Veganuary’ - a drive that encourages customers to adopt a plant-based diet in the first month of the year.

Greggs said the vegan steak bakes would be rolled out across all stores nationwide in the coming months, but an exact date for its Barrow shops has not yet been confirmed.
