A CYCLIST is appealing for witnesses to come forward after she was involved in a crash with a car.

Hairdresser Victoria Barr said she was finding it hard to work after suffering wrist and leg injuries as she was riding on Friars Lane in Barrow.

She was taken to Furness General Hospital for treatment and, although she is back at work at Ken Riley's salon, is in constant pain.

“Nobody stopped to see if I was okay at the time as well," said the 35-year-old.

“I have my hand strapped and I am in constant agony.

“Not only that but my bike is mangled and I can’t use that to get to work now.

“Now I have to walk or get a taxi to work which would mean I lose even more money after not being able to work because of this."

Police said they were called at around 1:50pm on the December 11 to the report of road traffic collision involving cyclist and a car at the junction of Bridgegate Avenue and Friars Lane Barrow.

The vehicle involved was a Mercedes driven by a 77-year-old man.

“I cannot afford to fix my bike because I’m trying to keep myself together financially," she said.

“I am hoping the pain I am in doesn’t end up being worse because I work in salon.

"If you can’t use your hand you can’t work.

“I am working again now but it hurts all the time.”

She is now worried about the safety of riding a bicycle around the Barrow area.

Miss Barr added: “People don’t pay enough attention.

“They need to remember that people cycling are doing their bit for the environment and there is nowhere else for them to be.

“I have been verbally abused and cut up by cars when cycling.”
