HERE's our guide to some of the main events taking place across Cumbria this weekend.

1 A pantomime production of Aladdin kicks off this Sunday at The Forum and runs until December 30.

This year’s cast includes X Factors ‘Same Difference’ Sean Smith as Aladdin, Emmerdale’s ‘Scarlett Nicholls’ and The Voice’s Kelsey-Beth Crossley as Princess Jasmine.

It also features Coronation Street’s ‘Les Battersby’ Bruce Jones as Abanazar, Steve Boyce as Widow Twankey and comedy star Rikki Stone as Wishee Washee.

2 Enjoy some late-night shopping in Barrow tonight with stores remaining open until 6:30pm. Parking will be free in all town centre car parks from 5pm onwards.

This is your second to last chance to get some presents bought in the town centre after work. December 20 is the final date with these extended hours.

3 Ahoy matey! Grange Council is screening ‘Fisherman’s Friends’ at Victoria Hall on Sunday 15 December at 7pm.

The Fisherman’s Friends are a male singing group from Port Isaac who sing sea shanties and have performed on a small scale for decades in Cornwall.

This film covers their unexpected rise to stardom when Universal Records come calling...one for any aspiring musicians in the area.

4 Looking to beat the bulge ahead of the upcoming week’s festivities? Head to Barrow Park for 9am sharpish and join the weekly 5km park run.

5 Head along to Ulverston’s Coronation Hall at 2pm this Saturday to enjoy a matinee Christmas carols performance.

Performing this year are Croftlands School Choir and Ulverston Town Band among other groups.

The collection will go to the Ulverston Mayor’s Charities which included many great charities and community groups in the town.

6 Head along to Dalton Community Church on Market Street this Sunday morning at 9:30am to join in an advent worship event. The Christmas period is after all a time for reflection and peace. This worship event could provide a moment to pause and take a step back amid a hectic end to the year.

7 St Mary’s Church in Walney is offering a Christmas lunch this Sunday at 12:30pm. The meal will be served up at the church’s parish hall, just off Church Street. All are welcome. There will be a raffle, as well as good company and plenty of Christmas cheer!

8 Do you know anyone who has put extra effort into their shop window Christmas display in the town centre this year? Barrow BID will judge the best Christmas window displays in the town centre on Saturday December 14 and will announce winners in the following categories: Best National business; Best independent business; Best dressed market stall; Best service sector business.

9 Want to reduce your carbon footprint and raise awareness around the effects of climate change after this week’s UN summit in Madrid? Extinction Rebellion’s Furness branch is taking part in a toy swap and food bank drive this Sunday in Ulverston at the Darby and Joan Club from 4pm.

10 At a loss for Christmas present ideas? Head along to Grange’s Victoria Hall this Sunday between 10am and 4pm to pick up something special from an exhibition and sale of hand-crafted glass items.
