A DALTON man has appeared in court accused of kidnapping a woman and raping her.

Howard Liam Rowley, of Devoke Water Gardens, did not enter a plea to the four offences when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court in Barrow on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old is accused of sexually assaulting a woman twice, and raping her, when he did not reasonable believe she consented, in March in 2018 in Dalton.

Rowley was represented in court by solicitor Trystan Roberts.

He is also accused of unlawfully, and by force or fraud, taking or carrying the woman against her will, and of kidnapping her with the intention of committing a sexual offence.

All offences are alleged to have happened in Dalton.

Victims of alleged sexual offences are granted automatic anonymity.

Magistrates granted Rowley unconditional bail.

He will next appear at Preston Crown Court on January 10 for another hearing.
