THE deadline to find the inspirational young heroes of South Cumbria is fast approaching, with just days left to nominate a Christmas Star.

The Christmas Stars appeal offers the chance to honour an unsung hero of your community who goes above and beyond to help others.

Since launching the appeal two weeks ago, dozens of brave and selfless individuals have been put forward for the honour.

Margaret Burrow from the Barrow District and Disability Association is urging the community to name their unsung heroes who deserve recognition.

"Many young ‘stars’ are doing a great role in the community, often unrecognised," she said.

"Therefore, we would like people to think ‘Who do I know who is an exceptional person?

"The unsung heroes deserve to be honoured."

All the nominees will be invited to a Christmas party at The Forum where Santa and his Nanny Elf will be waiting to give this year’s special nominees a selection of presents.

The party will be taking place on Saturday December 21 from 3pm until 4.30pm.

As well as this, nominees will have the opportunity to meet the cast of this year’s production of Aladdin.

Our winners in categories for bravery and selflessness will receive an early Christmas visit at home from Father Christmas, who will present the children with toys courtesy of Heath’s Toymaster.

Nominations should be sent to eleanor.ovens@newsquest.co.uk listing a name, number, address and reason for nomination.
