GENERAL election day has dawned and despite the grim weather forecasts, it's what we should all be used to in mid-December.

Although it's a cliche, the only predictable thing about this election is that it's wildly unpredictable.

Few will trust the polls, the parties, the pundits or predictions until the results are finally in.

There are so many factors at play in this one which could tip the balance either way.

From Brexit to the nuclear deterrent, NHS and schools funding, to the economy and our future relationship with Europe and the world.

Public contempt and political fatigue is at an all-time high but that means votes matter now more than ever.

The only message politicians understand is the one made at the ballot box - not social media rants or having a moan in the office, factory, college, pub or bus stop.

Will a newly-engaged young generation turn out or will the weather keep a fed-up older generation at home?

Whatever age you are, this is not the election to decide you're going to 'protest' by not taking part.
