I was recently on the radio talking everything K2B on Cando FM in Barrow, writes committee member Ian Walmsley.

On Thursday evening myself and Rachael Hales from the K2B committee were pleased to appear on Cando FM’s Drivetime Show.

Host Russ Palmer questioned us about the walk, its heritage and the arrangements for the 2020 event.

We discussed the opportunities for people to take part and stressed that there is room for more walkers to take part particularly in the Keswick event. Numbers in the Coniston to Barrow walk full up rapidly.

We also focussed on the three key dates

20/01/20 - K2B & C2B team registration opens at noon

28/02/20 - £10 Early Bird Registration Fee reverts to £20

02/05/20 - Walkday. K2B starts 5.15am-6-30am. C2B starts 9am-11am.

Many thanks to Johnny Williams and the team at Cando FM for making us welcome and giving us the chance to promote the Keswick to Barrow Walk on the radio.

There will be follow-up visits to keep listeners informed of progress and developments and to further promote the event.

I’m also hoping to get slots on Lake District Radio and Beyond Radio in Lancaster to keep driving an increase in numbers participating.

It was an interesting experience to be 'live' on the radio.

I must admit I was slightly anxious, I didn’t want to give out any incorrect information.

However, our introductory chat with Johnny made us relax and focus on what we needed to do as well as running through future dates and opportunities for publicity.

Also, Russ could not have been better.

He talked us through how the interview would be conducted and helped us with using the microphones.

It also helps that the local station understands the aims and ethos of the K2B and how much it relies on the local community to exist.

After this, I’m actually looking forward to doing my slots in the future.
