LIKE every Zoo, Safari Zoo undergoes regular inspections to ensure we are operating to the standards set out by zoo inspectors and licensing legislation.

As a relatively young zoo we welcome inspections, who doesn’t want to hear how they’re doing, or where they can improve - and who better to hear it from than proven industry experts.

Earlier this year, inspectors announced they would be visiting us in November with a special focus on our record keeping. We were thrilled to receive the inspectors report recently, commending us for our animal-related records.

Elsewhere, the Christmas festivities were in full swing from Saturday.

Our visitors enjoyed meeting baby reindeer Treacle and Cinnamon, listening to the traditional tunes from the Victorian Carol Singers, a visit to Santa’s sorting depot, a photo opportunity with a well-known snowman .

All this is topped off with some animal-friendly pyrotechnics to close the day in just the right way.

Tickets are still on sale with 25% discount for a limited time.

We’re also counting down to the big day with some festive fun enrichment treats for our furry, feathered and scaled friends in our Advent Enrichment Calendar, all designed by our Enrichment Keeper Emma, to encourage natural behaviours. So far the Humboldt Penguins have enjoyed fish-stuffed coconut shell puddings, Tapir Kaya has shook free her treats from some homemade snowflakes. The Emperor Tamarins and Raccoon Wabash have foraged through their very own Christmas Trees, Stanley the Sloth was treated to an apple-stuffed wreath,.The Sulcatas munched on a garland of fruit and veg, the Spider Monkeys got their very own wrapped gifts. Jaguars Bonita enjoyed nibbling on their very own Gingerbread Men and Kangaroo Damian enjoyed a big pine cone stuffed with tastiness.
