A PLANNING application to build two agricultural buildings and demolish an existing one at a farm near Tregynon has been approved.

The application for Pen-y-gelli, Llanwyddelan, Adfa, came in front of Powys County Council’s (PCC) planning committee on Thursday, December 5, as the holding is part of the council’s farm estate.

The report said that one building known as A would be 9.14 metres wide, 18.28 metres in length and up to 4.9 metres high to the ridge.

The second building, known as B would be much larger, 18.2 metres in width and 35.5 metres in length with a height of 5.6 metres to the ridge height.

Applicant Eluned Jones-Bright, according to the report, wants to use the buildings for storing machinery, fodder, cattle and sheep.

Cllr Les George, (Conservative – Caersws), said: “I am familiar with this area, I know the holding and that the previous tenant had been there for many years.

“The gentleman passed away and the farm was left in a very poor state.

“I’m 100 per-cent supportive of the recommendation to approve this and it’s been taken on by a young couple with a young family.

“I think it’s supporting the farm estate.”

Cllr George added that he proposed the application for approval.

County Times:

Cllr Jonathan Wilkinson, (Conservative – Meifod) said: “I have no hesitation in seconding Cllr George’s proposal.

I was involved in the letting of this farm when I was a portfolio holder for the county farm estate.

“He (Cllr George) is quite right it was left in a pretty dreadful state.

“I’m really pleased to see PCC investing money in the estate and being prepared to put up a new building for this very keen young couple.

“It’s good to see them getting a foot on the farming ladder.”

The application was passed unanimously.
