A MAN caught driving on the A590 without insurance has avoided a driving ban so he can see his children.
Josh Goodrum, of Main Street in Flookburgh, pleaded guilty when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
The 25-year-old was caught driving a Vauxhall Astra on the A590 at Greenodd on June 24 without insurance.
Goodrum faced a driving ban because of the totting-up procedure but magistrates allowed him to continue driving because he has two children by different mothers who live in remote towns some distance away from his home.
He argued that he lives in a remote area with poor transport links.
The court also heard he would lose his job and his home if he lost his driving licence and his current partner is going through a difficult pregnancy and is unable to drive.
Goodrum, who represented himself in court, was given six points, fined £100 and was also ordered to pay a £30 surcharge and £85 costs.
