"WHY should I make the effort to vote if they are not bothering?" - that was the call of a Barrovian pensioner who feels parliamentary candidates are not working hard enough to win her vote.

Muriel Pearson, 84, from Dalton said she had not received any campaign leaflets for prospective candidates standing in the General Election on December 12.

She said she relies on the leaflets in helping her make the decision on who to vote for.

The Newton Road resident, said: “I have had no leaflets, no nothing, and I have not seen anyone campaigning.

“Why should I make an effort if they are not bothering.

“I want to vote but how am I supposed to know who to vote for without any information.

“I am interested in politics, and I have never missed an election.”

Upon hearing this complaint political candidates made promises Mrs Pearson would get some information before the going to the polls on December 12.

Labour councillor Frank Cassidy who is campaigning for Chris Altree delivered some election literature to her home.

He said: “She wasn’t in when we called, but we were happy to give Mrs Pearson some of our campaign literature which explains why it is in the best interests of everyone around here to vote for Chris Altree next Thursday.”

Conservative candidate Simon Fell said: “That is a heavily covered area, so it is odd that she has missed out. She is going to get more over the next week though, but I may pop round soon.”

After receiving the leaflets Mrs Pearson said: “I am glad they have come, it just seemed weird before that I had heard nothing.”
