BARROW has seen the greatest decline in people successfully quitting smoking since 2009, according to new figures.

Barrow and Carlisle have seen the largest fall in people stubbing it out - down 64 per cent in ten years.

The latest annual statistics from NHS England show that in the year leading up to March 2019, the number of successful quitters increased from 121,742 to 123,800 (up 1.7 per cent).

Stoke-on-Trent has seen the largest rise in quit smoking success (91 per cent) over the past 10 years, with London Boroughs also performing well.

A postcode lottery also exists when it comes to how much the NHS is spending on quit smoking initiatives in the country.

Residents in North Lincolnshire receive the most NHS financial support to quit smoking (£3,516 per head) whereas people living in Derby (£61), Thurrock (£87), Wiltshire (£89) receive less than £100 per person.
