Work is now well under way to bring a unique set of homes to Egremont.

Royal Drive is set to consist of 26 innovative modular houses, the first of their kind to be built in the region.

Work began at the end of last month, with each home being delivered and installed in the space of 24 hours.

And a local drone enthusiast, David Downton, has managed to capture some images of the work on Royal Drive.

The new development is being created by Home Group, one of the UK’s largest housing associations, in collaboration with local company Ashcroft and ilke Homes, an industry leader in offsite modular manufacturing.

Amanda Starr, Copeland Council’s strategic planning manager, said: “I’m delighted to see the progress being made on this site by Home Group and to witness the delivery and installation of some of the new 26 houses on Royal Drive in Egremont.

“This exciting modular housing development is one of the first in the county and is the shape of things to come, so this is a great day for Copeland as we lead the way.

“We welcome Home Group’s ambition in using modern house building methods in the borough to replace some tired, existing housing with high quality social housing for rent. This new development will help address housing needs and provide local people with a great place to live.

“Copeland Borough Council is very supportive of new house building methods and recognises how they can support our growth strategy and deliver high quality, energy efficient modern homes that our residents want to live in. This investment in Egremont, one of our main towns, is very welcome. I look forward to seeing the completion of the development in due course.”
