This weeks winner of Bouquet of the Week is a great role model who always ‘promotes great sporting qualities’.

Louise Thornton, a teacher at Dowdales School has been nominated by Newton Primary School head teacher Lisa Fell, on behalf of all of the primary schools that Louise works with.

Mrs Lisa Fell, headteacher at Newton Primary School said: “Louise is the PE teacher at Dowdales School.

“She organises, coordinates and leads several sporting competitions with the primary schools in the area.

“She always displays and role models great sporting qualities such as patience, determination and perseverance.

“She makes everything fun and encourages the children to give their best. She is always smiling and all the children love her.

“She also encourages and builds up confidence through leadership programs.

“She brings the secondary school pupils to teach the primary pupils PE lessons.

“This bouquet is on behalf of all the local primary schools that work with Louise and Dowdales."

Louise Thornton, a teacher at Dowdales said: “I’ve taught for about 15 years.

“My role is to organise a lot of the competitions within the primary Dowdales cluster.

“The youngest involved are the reception classes.

“When students are in year 10-11 I get them involved in leadership activities on a four week rotation.

“It is a great way for the Dowdales children to develop leadership skills and it’s also great for the primary kids because they love being taught by the older children.

“I was really shocked because I really was not expecting to be nominated.

“I love my job and getting to visit the other schools.

“I’d just like to thank Mrs Fell for nominating me on behalf of herself and the other schools that I am involved with, the flowers are amazing.”
