More delays are expected as lines reopen.

Network Rail have repaired the damage to the overhead cables and all lines through Lancaster are back in use.

This was after a buses replacement service was needed yesterday.

A National Rail Enquiries spokesman said: "All lines have reopened through Lancaster following Network Rail has completed repairs to the overhead electric wires.

"Trains are now able to run through Lancaster.

"As trains return to normal, some trains will be amended, cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes.

"Trains are expected to remain disrupted until at least 12.00.

"The Windermere branch line is currently suspended and is not expected to reopen until 10.20."

TransPennine Express spokesman has said: "To help with your journey, you may use your ticket to travel to and from Scotland via the East Coast Main Line on CrossCountry and LNER services.

"This will involve travelling via York or Newcastle, for connections to and from Edinburgh.

"Tickets dated for yesterday, November, 27, are able to be used today and November, 29."

A spokesman for Virgin Trains said: "Buses are being sourced to run between Preston / Penrith and Lancaster."

Virgin tickets will be accepted on the following services:

LNER services between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh.

ScotRail services between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central.

TransPennine Express services via any reasonable route.

Northern on any reasonable route.

CrossCountry between Birmingham New Street and Edinburgh.
