A COMMUNITY based project which aims to renovate donated bikes is celebrating its first birthday and has recently passed the milestone of reviving its 100th bike.

The Salvation Army, based at Abbey Road, Barrow, have been revitalising the no longer needed bicycles that have been handed over.

The charity has always accepted bikes into its retail shop located within the citadel, however volunteer Paul Duffin came up with the idea of increasing the value of the bikes by checking them over and giving them a polish.

Captain Martin Davison of Barrow Salvation Army said: “It’s been a wonderful success.

“Paul has done a great job and loves seeing the transformations that are achieved as the bikes go from being neglected and unloved to being restored to their former glory.”

The refreshed bicycles are sold to raise funds for its community hub.
